Adult Acute Inpatient Programming at River Place

Located in LaPlace, Louisiana, and serving the greater New Orleans area, River Place Behavioral Health is pleased to offer comprehensive, compassionate care for adults age 18 and older who are in need of acute psychiatric support. Our state-of-the-art facility utilizes cutting edge technology to provide the very best care for our patients, and our secluded, private location is ideal for a tranquil respite from the stressors of daily life.

What We Treat

At River Place, we offer individualized treatment planning to address a wide range of mental health concerns such as:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Schizoaffective disorder
  • Generalized anxiety
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Major depression

In order to be admitted into our center, patients must meet criteria for a primary mental health diagnosis. However, if they are also struggling with a co-occurring addiction to alcohol or other drugs, we will address both disorders simultaneously.

Comprehensive Programming

Throughout their stay with us (which can vary in length based on recommendations from our psychiatrist), patients will have access to a wide range of supports to meet their goals for stabilization and recovery.

Our programming consists of a holistic blend of time-tested treatment modalities and experiential therapies that encourage healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Each patient will receive as-needed individual therapy which is conducted by experienced social workers and counselors. Individual therapy provides opportunities for patients to process the successes and setbacks of the recovery process in a confidential setting.

Group therapy is a mainstay of programming at River Place, and allows patients to connect with peers who have shared similar experiences. Useful in combatting the sense of isolation that often accompanies mental illness, group therapy allows participants to foster a sense of community connection. Group therapy is held daily and is led by social workers, counselors, nurses, and behavioral health technicians. Topics can include:

  • Community building
  • Goal setting
  • Coping skills
  • Self-esteem building
  • Life management
  • Daily living skills

In addition to participating in more traditional therapies, River Place invites our patients to partake in a variety of scientifically-backed experiential therapies during their stay. We are pleased to offer several healing options including art therapy, music therapy, and various movement/exercise opportunities. In addition, we welcome loved ones to participate in family therapy sessions that are designed to promote enhanced communication and empathy within the family unit.

At River Place Behavioral Health, we know that sometimes pharmaceutical interventions are an integral component of a patient’s treatment plan. Certain medications can significantly enhance the likelihood of a successful outcome. Our patients meet with a psychiatrist upon admission, and then three times per week thereafter to determine and evaluate the need for medication, and medication management services are provided for the duration of treatment.

If needed, medical support is provided by our internal medicine specialists, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff who are available to meet with patients on a daily basis. They offer interventions to address symptom management and stabilization when required, and are part of our interdisciplinary treatment team which includes the following professionals:

  • Social workers
  • Psychiatrists
  • Pharmacists
  • Dietitian
  • Behavioral health technicians
  • Recreational therapists

Planning for Discharge

As soon as a patient is admitted into the acute inpatient program at River Place, the treatment team will begin making a plan for a successful transition to other levels of care upon discharge. This plan is monitored and updated throughout the patient’s treatment experience, and will be individualized to meet his or her precise needs.

Patients will leave River Place with a clear understanding of the next steps to take to promote continued success in recovery. This could mean entering another residential treatment program, hospital, or stepping down to a lower level of care such as community-based or outpatient services. The staff at River Place will collaborate with referral sources, agencies, and other sources of patient support to prevent an interruption of care, and to ensure each patient has the tools and services needed to continue to work toward a successful recovery.

Our Joint Commission accreditation shows our focus on quality care.
